Dhanbad, Feb 24: Sports persons in Ranchi have divided themselves on the blame game over the death of Ranchi Khelgaon cadet Anjali Oraon.

While a section of sportspersons of the district belonging to different associations blames the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) director and chairman cum managing director of Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) responsible for the death of the athlete, the other section of sports organisers have jumped in support of officials.

Lohardaga athlete Anjali Oraon, who was living in the Khelgaon hostel of Ranchi and getting training, died on Sunday evening during treatment at a hospital in Ranchi.

Her death triggered a blame game among sportspersons in the Ranchi sports arena as well as Kheagaon.

A senior official of Ranchi Badminton Association, who is leading the agitation, held JSSPS director Sarojini Lakra responsible for the negligence of treatment of athletes and demanded to lodge an FIR against the CCL chairman cum managing director.

The CCL management takes care of Khelgaon and manages facilities for athletes.

However, some players and office bearers of different sports associations of Ranchi including badminton and athletics said that it is wrong to hold a single person responsible for the incident.

“Of course, it was an unfortunate incident and must be probed but it is wrong to raise finger towards particular persons. Without probe and fact, the blame game would hit the facilities being provided to players by non-government agencies in Khelagaon,” said a sportsperson of Ranchi district.

An official association said that CCL management also provided Ranchi badminton Association full support by providing all kinds of facilities. So it is wrong to implicate CCL authority in a false charge.
