Ranchi, Feb 14:It has been almost six months since the Ranchi University approved hiring separate faculty for the Department of Tribal and Regional Languages. However, there doesn’t seem to have been much improvement altogether.

The University had instructed officials to hire five teachers for all tribal and regional languages for a total of 66 seats in each subject, including Nagpuri, Mundari, Kurukh, Kurmali, Santhali, Khortha, Panchparganiya, Ho, and Khadia.

However, situations vary amid the different courses. Several courses are being run by just three professors, while one has just one professor.

In the case of Tribal languages, Ho has a total of five teachers including one permanent, four contractual professors while the total number of students in the present session is 25. Khardia has one permanent and two contractual professors with 17 students, while Kurukh and Mundari both have one permanent and two contractual professors with 50 students. Santhali, on the other hand, has just one contractual professor with no permanent professors for 20 students.

Meanwhile, in the case of Regional languages, Panchparganiya has no permanent professors but three contractual professors for 40 students. Nagpuri has one permanent, two contractual and a guest professor for around 60 students, while Kurmali has one permanent and two contractual professors for the same number of students. Khortha, on the other hand, has one permanent and four contractual professors for a total of 50 students.
