Ranchi, June 8: The two-day interaction for the selection of Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor began on Wednesday and will continue till June 9.
Notably, the process had begun in July 2021 when the applications were invited by the Raj Bhawan for appointment to the post of Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor in four universities of the state, including Ranchi University.
In this regard, Ranchi University’s PRO Pritam Kumar said, “As per UGC Regulations, a person ought to have ten years of teaching experience as a professor for being eligible to be appointed to the post of VC. They should also be a recognized professor with several papers published. These published papers are also reviewed for the appointment.”
“Along with this, a Search Committee is formed that gives around three options to the Chancellor. It is also required that a Search Committee consisting of a nominee of the Chancellor, a nominee of the State government, a nominee of the Chairman of UGC, and a nominee of Syndicate/Executive Council of the University is constituted to recommend names of suitable candidates for appointment to the said post,” he added.
It is noteworthy that even though the Chancellor appoints the VC and Pro VC, it cannot be done without the suggestions from the state government.
More than a dozen candidates from outside the state have reached Ranchi for interaction. Meanwhile, in the universities where VC and Pro VC are to be appointed, the Vice-Chancellor in charge is looking after the routine work under improvisation.
The VC in charge does not have the powers vested as per the Jharkhand University Act. In case of urgent issues, the works are being done with permission from the Raj Bhawan. Not only this, many candidates who had applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor have retired.
