Ranchi, June 14: Police in Jharkhand’s capital are facing tough resistance in the Hindpiri area during their effort to bring normalcy in the city disturbed since June 10 after firing on the frenzied procession taken out to protest against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s statement on Prophet Mohammed without prior permission of the district administration.

A locality resident informed this saying religious slogans were raised late Monday night in the Hindpiri area of ??the capital. Those raised slogans had put off the light of their houses. People from other communities were in a panic because of the sloganeering.

The sloganeering started after police conducted a raid in the area to pick up the suspects of the June 10 violence.

Except for Hindpiri, there is no such sloganeering in other vulnerable areas including Lower Bazar, Doranda, Daily Market, Kotwali and Chutia but people were noticed protesting against the raid in the locality. According to those protesting, police are disturbing even those who were not in the procession and are not in any way associated with violence.

Amid resistance, police picked up more than 50 suspects from different parts of the city and started questioning them. As police picked up the suspects, family members turned up at the police station pleading innocence and police had a tough time convincing them.

Due to police action and its reaction in the affected area, the majority of shops on the Main Road continued to remain closed on the fifth day. Shops on the main road from Albert Ekka Chowk to Church Complex were seen closed. Barricading continue to exist in front of every street exiting on the main road and police personnel were noticed standing there. The police are keeping an eye on the people coming and going.

Police are conducting raids in search of the rioters. For this, they have formed a raiding team on Monday. On the basis of CCTV footage, the raiding team is busy identifying the accused involved in the incident of nuisance and arresting them.
