Ranchi, Feb 21: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, a wild elephant killed four persons in Itki, Ranchi today. Those who died included Sukhveer Oraon, Govinda Oraon, Punia Devi and Rakhwa Devi. Etwa Oraon is injured and undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
According to a locality resident Tuesday morning, two elephants came out of the forest towards the village in the Itki police station area. Somehow they got separated on the way. One elephant remained in Garhgaon of Itki. This elephant created havoc in the village. It took the lives of four people one by one.
As the information spread, a team of the forest department and police reached the spot. The entire village assembled to see the elephant despite the district administration’s direction not to do so.
On February 20, a wild elephant trampled three to death at Ladai Tangra village under the Bhandra block in the Lohardaga district. The deceased have been identified as Lalman Mahto (60), Neha Kumari (18) and Jhalo Oraon (27).
Earlier on February 8, a wild elephant entered Hazaribag town in the wee hours killing two and injuring two. The two killed were identified as Damodar Saw and Dhaneshwar Sahu whereas the two injured are Rinki Devi and Khushboo Kumari.
