Ranchi: XISS welcomes new batch, awards Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Scholarship to winners

Ranchi, Aug 2: The Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi inaugurated the new academic session of batch 2022-24 on Tuesday. Salil Lal, CHRO, Maruti Suzuki was present on the occasion as a chief guest.

The chief guest for the event Salil Lal, CHRO, Maruti Suzuki and an alumnus of XISS recalled his journey in the Institute and addressed the students stating, “Rigorous training through social work apart from academics has helped me become a professional with a difference and down to earth.”

He inspired the students to be firm, fair and fast. He motivated them to be courageous and to practice confidence with consistency. Thereafter, he presented the Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Scholarship for the Human Resource Management batch 2021-23 to the winners.

Earlier during the inauguration, Fr Xavier Soreng SJ, Superior, XISS, in brief, shared the transformative journey of St Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit Society followed by the Jesuit Education values such as showing the way to God, walking with the marginalized, journeying with youth and caring for our Mother Earth.

Fr Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS in his address welcomed the incoming batch and said, “We live in a world of vast opportunities, vis-à-vis stark contradictions and challenges. XISS will teach you teamwork and these two years are a beginning to something new which will make you who you never were.” He further stated that XISS focuses on sustainable development and inclusive growth and encouraged the new batch to be proactive, prodigious and innovative.

Provincial of the Ranchi Jesuit Society and Chairman, Governing Body, XISS, Fr Ajit Xess SJ, in his goodwill message to the students, said, “Our life and our future is in our hands and it depends on us what we want to become”.

He enunciated that attitude, aptitude and values are the determinants of what you become. He encouraged the students to strike a balance in life, to not be afraid to take risks and think out of the box.

 

 

On the other hand, the Inaugural Ceremony saw the names of winners of the Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Scholarship 2022-23 declared by the chief guest.

Sudipta Dutta, Shalini Banga, and Amit Kumar Paul were each awarded Rs one lakh as the winners of the memorial scholarship this year which has been awarded since 2013.

Notably, the Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Scholarship was constituted in the memory of Awanish Dev, GM Plant HR, Maruti-Suzuki India Ltd. who was an alumnus of XISS PM&IR batch 1982-84. He lost his life during a clash at the auto major’s Manesar plant on July 18, 2012.

XISS with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. had jointly set up the Maruti Suzuki XISS Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Trust where the purpose of the scholarship was to encourage competitiveness and learning amongst the HR specialization students at XISS, Ranchi.

Faculty and students from four programmes of XISS namely Human Resource Management, Rural Management, Financial Management and Marketing Management were present at the inauguration.
