CONRAD DIAS

Ranchi, July 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Ranchi railway station through an online medium. A total of Rs 447 crore will be spent on this project.

The name of this project has been given as Major Upgradation of Ranchi Station. This project will be done under EPC (Engineering Procurement of Construction). It is targeted to be completed in two and a half years. Work on this project was going on for the last two years.

The proposed redeveloped Ranchi station will have world-class passenger amenities including a food court, executive lounge, cafeteria, air-conditioned waiting halls etc. for ensuring ease of movement as well as the comfort of the passengers.

There will be a three-storey building on the right side of the station. A lift facility will also be available. A total of 7,000 passengers will be able to stay in the concourse area at a time. The two buildings will be connected to each other. Along the lines of the airport, the facility of restaurant and air condition retiring room will also be present. There will be a total of six platforms.

The Prime Minister said that along with connectivity, the central government is also focusing on the creation of facilities at important places related to faith and spirituality in the country. Modern facilities have also been expanded in Baba Baidyanath Dham under the PRASAD scheme. When a holistic approach guides the projects, new avenues of income come for various segments of society and new facilities create new opportunities.

The General Manager of South Eastern Railways Archana Joshi said that there will be special facilities for disabled passengers.

Some of the key highlights of the redevelopment plan are as follows:

  • Iconic station building with modern facilities and state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Well-designed horizon of 40-60 years
  • Integration of both sides of the city (station buildings on both sides of the railway tracks)
  • Spacious roof plaza
  • Smooth traffic flows, adequate parking facilities with surface parking.
