Renowned Shooting Coach Jaspal Rana Passes Away at 49

Renowned Indian shooter and high-performance pistol coach Jaspal Rana has passed away at the age of 49, with the National Rifle Association of India confirming his death.

Fell Ill on Flight From Munich World Cup

According to reports, Rana experienced chest pain and discomfort on the flight while returning from the ISSF World Cup held in Munich, Germany. Upon landing in Delhi, he was immediately admitted to Max Hospital, where he underwent a procedure involving the placement of a stent after his condition deteriorated.

Decorated Career as Shooter and Coach

Jaspal Rana was a four-time Asian Games gold medallist and India’s most successful athlete in Commonwealth Games history. He was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1994 and the Padma Shri in 1997 for his contributions to Indian shooting. He was also conferred the Dronacharya Award in 2020 for his role in mentoring the next generation of shooters.

Mentored Olympic Medallist Manu Bhaker

In recent years, Rana served as the high-performance coach for Indian pistol shooters and played a key role in training Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, helping her secure a historic double bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
