Rescue team finds four women’s bodies in Dhanbad illegal mining incident

Dhanbad Feb 1: After a mines incident during illegal mining under the Nirsa police station, rescuers took out four bodies of women including a girl in late afternoon on Tuesday from the Dhanbad-based Gopinathpur Open Cast Project (OCP) in the Mugma Area of Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL).

Dhanbad Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Kumar Tiwari, who was monitoring the rescue operation, said that four bodies have been bought out from debris inside mines .

“Rescue operation is still continuing to search for others who might have  been trapped in the incident,” said the SDM.

The incidents occurred in  three mines- two mines of ECL (Gopinathpur  and Kapasara mines) and one (Chach Victoriya) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) during illegal mining on Tuesday morning.

Many illegal miners are feared trapped in the incident in all three mines. The officials said that the roof of the coal mine reportedly caved in.

Rescue operation at Kapasara outsourcing project and Chach Victoria mines of BCCL is also under progress.

Besides SDM Dhanbad, Nirsa MLA Aparna Sengupta, Nirsa Circle Officer (CO) Nitin Shivam Gupta, block development officer Vikash Kumar Roy, ECL Mugma Area general manager Vibhash Chandra Singh, SDPO Pitamber Singh Kharwar, officer in-charge of Nirsa police station Dilip Singh Yadav were supervising the rescue operation till evening.
