Dhanbad, Dec 2: All nine faculties of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Dental College, Ranchi will soon begin offering a course in the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) programme.
In this regard, Dr Vivek Kumar, the president of the Jharkhand State Dental Council (JSDC), met with Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for Health Arun Kumar Singh at Nepal House in Ranchi and demanded that the MDS programme be established at RIMS Dental College so that Jharkhand students would not have to travel outside of the state to pursue higher education in this area.
Dr Vivek Kumar, who is also an executive member of the Dental Council of India, said that the state Council has requested the ACS health about it and handed over the detailed report for the requirement in launching MDS including numbers of teachers, staff, chairs and other infrastructure.
“He (ACS) took the demand seriously and gave a positive response to launch the course in the interest of state students,” said Dr Vivek Kumar.
He further said that the process of permitting 50 seats to RIMS Dental College is in the final stage. After getting recognition from the Central government, the next step would be getting permission for the MDS course. ”So the Jharkhand State Dental Council has put up the demand before the state government to initiate step for MDS,” said Dr Kumar.
JSDC president said RIMS Dental College is the lone government institution where poor students cherish their ambition. Moreover, students of Jharkhand have to go out of state for higher education in dental courses in the lack of facilities in Jharkhand. If the MDS course is launched in RIMS Dental College, the poor students would get relief from going out of state.
Dr Vivek said RIMS Dental College has the proper infrastructure of housing 100 seats. So, starting the MDS course would not be a problem.
“Health minister and additional chief secretary of health are much interested in the improvement of dental education at RIMS Dental College and have assured positive help for the institution,” he said.
