Ranchi: The strike by junior doctors at RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) in Ranchi continues as part of a nationwide protest following the shocking rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The Junior Doctors Association (JDA) has decided to extend the pen-down movement, which began in response to the tragic incident.

In a statement issued today, the JDA expressed outrage over the attack on doctors who were peacefully protesting at R.G. Kar Medical College and other medical colleges in West Bengal on the night of Independence Day. The association condemned the politically motivated mob violence and unanimously decided to continue the pen-down movement at RIMS.

As part of their protest, the JDA has suspended all elective services, including OPD (Outpatient Department) and elective OT (Operation Theatre) services, indefinitely. On Thursday, RIMS’s cultural and film society supported the movement by organizing street plays, poetry recitals, and the display of posters and banners throughout the hospital. A candlelight vigil was also held outside the trauma center to pay tribute to the deceased doctor.

JDA’s Key Demands:

  1. Immediate arrest of all individuals involved in the attack on doctors at R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata, and those participating in the protests.
  2. A written assurance for the implementation of the Central Security Act and the declaration of all hospitals as secure zones.
  3. Ensuring the safety and well-being of doctors on emergency duty at all medical colleges in Jharkhand.
