Ranchi, April 11: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), along with the Drinking Water and Sanitation department
and Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) have planned to install as well as repair water supply pipes in 18 different wards of the city.
Sanjeev Vijayawargiya, Deputy Mayor spoke to Lagatar24.com and informed that the target to complete the installation is by 2024 across 18 wards.
“The funding for this initiative has been provided by the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme by the central government. We have directed Jindal, L&T and Nagarjuna constructions to speed up the process to ensure a hassle-free supply of water,” he said.
He further informed that there are around 15-16 water towers in the city which are about to be completed in the coming months. Once these tanks are completed it will ensure hassle free water supply to the residents.
The DWSD officials have been informed to see there is regular water supply in areas which have water scarcity, such as Jagganathpur and Vidyanagar, as there have been complaints by the residents.
Jagganathpur has around more than 100 families and they are dependent on two water tankers on a daily basis.
The Deputy Mayor also informed that certain areas of Harmu and Argora have already started to get water supply through the pipelines and other places will also be covered soon.
However, residents of places such as Dhurwa are still facing a water crisis as they are dependent on wells and water tankers. They often queue up in front of wells or hand pumps to get water.
“The supply of water is not sufficient as compared to the number of families residing in this locality. The condition is quite severe as one may think. The authorities should take proper initiative before it leads to something serious,” said Abhishek, one of the residents of Dhurwa.
