Chennai: Ravindra Narayan Ravi, the former governor of Nagaland, was sworn in today as the new governor of Tamil Nadu. He took over for Banwarilal Purohit, who was transferred to Punjab. In an official ceremony held at Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice Sanjib Banerjee, administered the oath of office to Ravi.
Ravi was presented a book after the oath of his office by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin who also accompanied him to the stage. Former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and BJP Union Minister of State L. Murugan was given seats behind the TN Cabinet. Other figures who attended included Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan and MDMK general secretary Vaiko.
Stalin introduced the new Governor to his Cabinet colleagues after the event. Chief Justice Banerjee introduced Ravi to the judges of the Madras High Court.
Ravi, a former IPS officer, was named governor of the state by President Ram Nath Kovind last week. He has previously served as the Interlocutor for the Centre in the Naga peace talks.
