New Delhi: Just days before the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, Team India faced an injury scare as captain Rohit Sharma was reportedly hit on his left knee during a net session. Although Rohit initially continued batting despite the pain, he later sought medical attention. The Indian skipper was seen with his knee strapped, raising concerns about his fitness for the crucial match.
The injury, though initially not deemed serious, has prompted close monitoring by team physios. The Indian team’s preparations at the nets have been rigorous, with key bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep bowling full throttle. Virat Kohli, who has been struggling with form recently, also participated in the session, practicing against spinners and side-armers.
Rohit’s form has been under scrutiny, especially as he continues to bat at the No. 6 spot. Speculations about his potential retirement from Test cricket have intensified following Ravichandran Ashwin’s recent decision to retire after the Brisbane Test.
Despite these challenges, former Australia captain Michael Clarke voiced his support for Rohit. Speaking to ESPN Australia, Clarke said, “He’s the captain of the team, so I’m picking him. Rohit hasn’t started here, but he’s an exceptional player. He plays in the middle order because he thinks it’s best for the team.”
The Indian team is set to resume training on Tuesday following a scheduled rest day, with the Melbourne Test drawing near.
