New Delhi, Feb 11: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Friday, with the second portion of the Budget Session to reconvene on March 14 following a one-month holiday.

After Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the House on the Union Budget 2022-2023 and finished the discussion on the matter, Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh adjourned the House.

The Deputy Speaker accepted several special mentions after the Finance Minister finished her speech and then announced the adjournment of the first half of Budget Session, adding “the House stands adjourned till March 14.”

When the Upper House convened for the day at 10 a.m., papers were laid on the table, followed by a statement by BJP Member of the House L Murugan on the status of implementation of recommendations contained in the Twenty-seventh Report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Demands for Grants (2021-22) pertaining to the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying.

Notably, the President addressed both Houses of Parliament gathered on January 31 to begin the Eighth Session of the Seventeenth Lok Sabha. On February 1, the Union Budget was presented.

Following the announcement of the House’s adjournment on Friday, the standing committees will study the financial allocations for various ministries and agencies and produce reports during the recess from February 12 to March 13.

The Session is expected to end on April 8th, depending on the demands of government business, when the House reconvenes for the second half of Budget Session on March 14th.
