Daltonganj, August 7: Sabzi Mandi which used to be held every four or five hours a day between the Sattar Seth Chowk and Vishnu Mandir main road of the town police today shifted to its new open, wide and broad space inside the Sarkari Bus Depot in the town.
The issue of the Sabzi Mandi right on the road where Vishnu Mandir is, was slowly hotting up when the residents lying across this road began sitting on dharna demanding its shifting from here to any other place.
The dharna was started first on Friday and this alarmed SP
Reeshma Ramesan and the civil administration alike as at the site of dharna, women were made to sit in the front row.
Sources said that the SP took note of the episode and directed the Town police to coordinate with the civil administration to find an amicable solution to this issue of the Sabzi Mandi.
Sources said the Circle Officer Sadar Anchal Jhunnu Mishra played a major and decisive role in settling this issue which was right on the brink of becoming an issue between two communities here.
Complaints and counterclaims were reaching the Town police and before the atmosphere could have become more vitiated the civil and police administration along with the saner elements of both communities succeeded in finding an alternative site for the Sabzi Mandi.
The new site at the premise of the Sarkari Bus Depot was acceptable to the vegetable vendors and stockists.
The job of defusing the crisis was not easy. Sources said none of the two sides was ready to budge an inch from its own made stand.
Here CO Jhunnu Mishra, sources said, had to remind the reluctant ones of legal and penal action if the Sabzi Mandi does not move on to some other area. CO’s tough but legal stand worked hard.
Insiders in both communities said in a very hushed tone about blowing up of this Sabzi Mandi to the hilt to serve ulterior motives. However, a firm decision of the administration and an equally positive response to the acceptability of the new site helped tide over the crisis of the Sabzi Mandi issue.
Sources said in the very initial stage of this episode the city commissioner Ravi Anand who is DDC Palamu had detoured the old site of the Sabzi Mandi stretching between Sattar Seth Chowk and Vishnu Mandir and was not in two minds of this Sabzi Mandi going to some far more free and open space than this main town road causing heavy traffic congestion and inconvenience to the residents and the passersby.
