Ranchi, July 29: A team of Sahibganj police arrested Jai Prakash alias Mungeri Yadav from a location close to Birsa Munda Airport in the Jharkhand capital and took him to an undisclosed location for questioning.
After questioning, Yadav was produced at a city court for transit remand to take him to Sahibganj from Ranchi.
The reason behind his arrest is yet to be ascertained. Yadav owns a stone mine in Rajmahal.
Sahibganj Superintendent of Police Anuranjan Kispotta could not be contacted for his comment. A police official said the arrest took place in a case of keeping illegal arms registered against Yadav at Barhet police station.
A police official supported the fact saying Yadav is an ED witness. The statement of his son Ankush was also taken by the ED. In the month of January weapons was found from the possession of Mungeri Yadav’s bodyguard and in course of investigation of the case the action has been taken, the official said without elaborating further details.
Officer-in-charge of the said police station Gaurav Kumar took the action after he got information that Yadav is attempting to flee to Delhi.
A Sahibganj resident said Yadav owns Jai Bajrangbali Stone Works.
It is being told that Mungeri Yadav had a better relationship with Pankaj Mishra a few years ago, but due to a dispute between the two, this relationship turned sour.
In May 2021, on the written application of Sahibganj District Taljhari Circle Officer Simon Marandi a case was registered against him for illegal mining and keeping illegal explosive. The FIR was lodged under the Explosives Act 2008. Yadav was earlier also arrested in on 11 February 2018 in a case of extortion registered in the year 2007 at Ranga police station.
