Ranchi, May 6: The state government has given clearance to Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to acquire the 361-hectare forest land to start the work for Gua Mines in West Singhbhum.
In August 2021, SAIL announced an investment of Rs. 4,000 crore in Jharkhand over the next three years. The funding will be used to enhance the capacity of Gua mines and in the installation of a 4-million-tonne (MT) pallet plant.
Kameshwar Prasad, Liaison Officer at SAIL, informed lagatar24.com that currently the trees are being chopped down from the 361-hectare land whereas the paperwork regarding the tender is also under process.
“We have hired the agency from the forest department to cut the trees and the work shall be completed soon. Once it is done, we will level the ground and will start the installation of the 4MT pallet plant,” he said.
SAIL’s global vision includes a huge expansion and modernisation initiative, which includes updating and developing new facilities using cutting-edge green technologies.
SAIL Executive Director (Operations) Ajay Arora had earlier said in an interview that they are going for beneficiation technology to upgrade ore quality from the existing 61 percent to 63 percent.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren had also acknowledged this decision by SAIL as it will bring out the rich identity of the state in front of the world.
