Dhanbad, Dec 23: A pregnant woman along with her five years old son was crushed to death by a school bus on the Barbadda- Tundi road at Muraidih under Barbadda police station, around 13 km away from the district headquarters on Thursday afternoon.

Barbadda police station officer in-charge Suman Kumar said that the incident occurred around 3. 15 p.m. The woman, Pinki Devi (30), a resident of Kenduatand was going to meet her doctor at Barbadda along with son when a private school  (Symbiosis) bus carrying students took them under the wheels. Both mother and her son died on the spot.

The school belongs to former Sindri MLA and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Fulchandra Mandal.

The irate villagers blocked the Barbadda – Tundi road in protest and tried to set the bus ablaze. They were demanding the former MLA to visit the accident site.

However, the  Barbadda police along with some local people intervened timely and saved the bus from being burnt. All students were brought down from the bus and sent to their respective houses safely.

The road was blocked till 5.40 pm and the negotiation of the former MLA’s son and family members of the victim woman was under progress at Barbadda police station. Security forces have been deployed heavily in the area to control the situation and avoid any further incidents.
