Ranchi, Dec 8: Schools in Ranchi have started to gear up to restrict the spread of ‘Omicron,’ the new strain of Covid-19, among the students after it was declared as the ‘variant of concern’ by the World Health Organization (WHO).

After the government of Jharkhand declared the Covid guidelines for the school, schools in Ranchi have been reopened from classes 6 to 12.

Describing the preparedness of Zila School, principal Ashish Kumar said that the school is following all the Covid guidelines very strictly.

“Proper usage of the mask is ensured in the school premises by the teachers and everyone is instructed to use hand sanitizer to protect the students from the new strain of virus,” he said.

On the other hand, JVM Shyamali principal Samarjeet Jana said that no preparedness is there in the wake of the new strain of the virus as there are no special guidelines prescribed by either the central or the state government.

“We are currently focusing on the exams of class 10th and 12th as it is more important for the students,” Jana said.

It is to be known that the Omicron variant first emerged in southern Africa late last month. The scientists there identified the fast-spreading strain in one of the samples taken from Botswana. Since then, Omicron has spread to two dozen countries.

The Omicron strain of the coronavirus is spreading fast in India as well as the world. On Monday (December 6), India’s tally neared the two-dozen mark (23 to be exact) after two more people were confirmed infected with Omicron in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai.
