Jodhpur, May 3: Following conflicts between two clans ahead of Eid al-Fitr, a curfew was enforced in several sections of Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Tuesday. District officials asked residents not to leave their homes without authorization in a statement, adding that the limitations could be extended beyond May 4 if necessary.
As a precautionary step following skirmishes, the Jodhpur government had already halted internet and SMS services till further orders.
The situation in Jodhpur, according to the Rajasthan Police, is tense but under control, and three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. In Jodhpur, security has also been tightened up, but tensions have risen again when some protesters threw stones at police vehicles following the Eid Namaz on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot convened a high-level meeting with the state’s director general of police (DGP) and other authorities to assess the situation. Gehlot has also urged the public to keep the peace and unity.
