Jamshedpur, June 17:  Several places across Jharkhand is expected to experience severe heat wave today, warned weathermen.

Jamshedpur, Daltonganj, Giridih, Ranchi and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum have been already experiencing severe heat wave conditions for the last few days.

More districts are expected to witness severe heat wave conditions today.

Statistics revealed that the maximum temperature has crossed the 45-degree Celsius mark in Godda and its adjoining areas during the past 24- hours while Jamshedpur and Daltonganj have notched 43.8 degree Celsius, seven to eight notches above normal.

Deoghar and Garhwa recorded around 43 degrees Celsius while most other districts recorded 40 degrees Celsius and above.

The extreme heat threw normal life out of gear. The heat coupled with humidity resulted in high discomfort index in most parts of the state.

An alert of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) was also issued for isolated places over north-east, southern and central parts of the state for the next three days.

According to satellite pictures, a low-pressure trough was running from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim to the Northwest Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha at 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

Weathermen said conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over some more parts of south Peninsular and  Eastern India during June 18-21.
