Dhanbad, Aug 17: The management of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) has issued a show-cause notice to teachers and doctors of the institution for skipping the Independence Day function on Sunday.
Both the Principal and the Superintendent of SNMMCH have issued a show-cause letter separately to their teachers and hospital doctors respectively. Principal Dr Jyotiran Prasad on Tuesday admitted to having issued a letter to teachers who skipped the function. In the letter, no individual name is mentioned.
“ It was an important function all should have attended. Some teachers did not appear on the occasion. So, the letter has been issued,” said Dr Prasad, Principal of SNMMCH. Superintendent Dr Arun Kumar Barnbal could not be available for comment.
However, the show-cause notices have triggered massive resentment among senior teachers and doctors of the institution. A senior faculty member said, of course, all should have attended but before issuing a letter the principal should have verbally asked the reason behind absence.
A senior doctor of the college hospital said that there are six medical colleges in the state. Five institutions, Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur, Palamu medical College, Hazaribagh Medical College, and Dumka Medical College did not issue such letters. Only SNMMCH Dhanbad has humiliated the teachers and the doctors, he added.
An office-bearer of the SNMMCH Teachers Association said that the deputy commissioner is also the administrator of college, so some teachers and doctors attended his function at Golf Ground. That is why some faculty members and doctors were absent at the college functions, he added.
However, a doctor said that is not the first time the principal has issued a letter for skipping the Independence Day function. In 2009 the then principal Dr SN Barolia had also issued a similar show-cause notice.
