Ranchi/Simdega, Sept. 1: Once a Naxal affected backward district, Simdega is now known as the nursery of Hockey players. The Women hockey Team that caught everyone’s eye with their performance in Tokyo Olympics 2020 had two players from Simdega. Nikki Pradhan & SalimaTete.

Youth & Sports are two major areas of the incumbent government of Jharkhand led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. With this spirit, the District Administration in Simdega has developed a Skill Development, Career Counseling and Personality Development centre inside the District Employment Office building.

Simdega being one of the distant and backward districts, many young individuals from the district would miss the opportunity to apply for government jobs or other applications. The centre has been developed with the vision to provide the youth of the district with all modern facilities under one roof. Apart from providing students and youth with modern infrastructure facilities, the centre will also provide career counselling; Spoken English, skill development training and personality development training to the youth of the district.

Computer room, Internet library, Live TV, Projector, Refreshment room facility at the centre

To develop the centre as a state of the art facility, the centre has been equipped with 10 Computer sets with an internet facility, library and a refreshment room. Apart from this, the centre has a live TV demo room with a projector facility. As it is a free facility for the students, youth and sportsmen, anyone can come and utilize facilities at the centre. It has been targeted to benefit students and youth from underprivileged sections, children of Divyang individuals, sportsmen/women, children from Children’s Observation Home, family and children of street vendors, spouse and children of government employees and youth registered under district employment centre.

Appointment of counsellors at the centre

To achieve the desired outcome, the administration has tied up with different Non-Government and Social service organizations for the appointment of Counsellors. The centre has counsellors for English spoken training, body language training, computer and skill development training and a dedicated counsellor for career counselling of students.

Aim to develop this centre as ‘Centre of Excellence’

The Deputy Commissioner Simdega said ‘under the able leadership and guidance of the chief minister  Hemant Soren, we had prepared an extensive plan and had shared the same with the central government. Our proposal got approved by the centre and we got an amount sanctioned for the project. Only 10 districts have received this fund for their special initiative proposal. Such a centre where students, sports players and youth can come and explore different opportunities under one roof was need of the hour. Our district is one of the most distant districts from the state capital, it would be difficult for our youth to travel to the capital city and access facilities ‘.

For effective and efficient running of the centre it has been established in the District employment office, Simdega.

“Apart from this, Simdega has been excelling in sports too, therefore, the district has established itself as the Nursery of Hockey players. But, many a time the good players feel under-confident when they go outside the state or overseas to perform. Body language training and spoken English training to players will boost their confidence and it will help in improving their performance on the field. Apart from this, the centre will also have a roaster facility for the benefit of others so that everyone is aware of the day to day training facility. We aim to develop this centre as the ‘Centre of Excellence’ for the youth and students of the district.”
