Daltonganj, Feb 18: Five girls, including three minors, were rescued today in Simdega who were to be trafficked to Delhi.

Giving this information, Simdega SP Shams Tabrez said, “Our anti-human trafficking unit police station Kolebira got input of trafficking of five girls today. They swung into action immediately. The girls were rescued from the bus stand.”

“Two human traffickers Vinod Kerketta and Nubela Soren alias Puja have been caught and jailed,” he added.

The two human traffickers had e-tickets for everyone which the police had seized. The seizure of tickets is a vital exhibit in the court of law to buttress the point that these 5 girls, three minors and two majors were enticed to go to Delhi via Ranchi.

“With these 5 rescues, our tally of rescues reaches 100 in 16 months so far since I have been the SP of Simdega,” Tabrez said.

“37 human traffickers have been jailed too during the same period of 16 months,” he added.

Sources said that the human trafficking rate goes up in pre-Holi period.

No civil society activist has been able to explain this phenomenon but they agree to say that incidents of human trafficking shoot up days and weeks preceding the Holi festival.

Sources said agricultural activities seem to slow down after Holi and the poor families begin to feel the heat of unemployment. Such families yield to the temptations offered for their girls by the human traffickers.

To a question if the parents of the girls are so oblivious of what bad or worse is in store for them outside their homes, a civil society activist KK Singh said the parents know everything about it but they just succumb to offers of the human traffickers who give references of families whose girls are doing fine and well in Delhi.
