Chatra, Aug 22: With Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan receiving a tip-off about a smuggler carrying 2.5 kg opium, a team was constituted which carried out a raid and arrested a smuggler with the consignment on Tuesday. Simaria subdivisional police officer Ashok Priyadarshi said the arrest was made from Shila village.
Sources said Ranjan got the information about the smuggler and so he immediately formed a team led by Priyadarshi and comprising of Shila outpost officer-in-charge Ramdev Verma.
The team carried a raid in Hahe village under Shila outpost nabbing one Kameshwar Ganjhu from there. A total of 2.5kg opium was found in his possession.
Sources said police are interrogating Kameshwar to know others involved with him in this illegal business. “We will nab them also,” added an officer. He said the Chatra police are taking continuous action against drug peddlers active in the district. “This is the reason why we have so far recovered a huge consignment of opium, brown sugar, marijuana and others,” he added.
