Dhanbad, Sept 15: Upbeat by the approval of 100 MBBS seats from the current session, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad has applied for permission to start post-graduate (PG) course from 2024-25 sessions.
SNMMCH principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad today said that the institution (SNMMCH) has deposited a fee to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for permission to admit 34 PG seats in eight faculties from 2024-25 sessions.
“The institution has deposited fees for the PG courses. Now, the NMC team would send a team for assessment of available infrastructure and other facilities required for launching higher education courses at SNMMCH. If the green signal is given, the PG course would kick start from the next academic session,” said the principal.
The eight subjects in which SNMMCH has applied for permission are surgery, medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, biochemistry and pathology.
In the state government owned five medical colleges, the PG course runs only at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur. The institution has 43 seats permitted by the NMC.
A senior faculty member of SNMMCH said that if Dhanbad medical college is given permission for PG course, it would fulfil the ambition of several MBBS students who have to go out of the state every year to cherish the mission of higher education due to lack of seats in the home turf institutions.
Notably, SNMMCH had applied for PG seats three years ago also but this time the college authorities are hopeful of getting approval from the NMC after regaining 100 MBBS seats after six years.
