Dhanbad, Aug 18: The micro-biology department of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad got a professor (Dr Vinay Kumar) after 16 years.
SNMMCH principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad in this regard on Thursday evening issued a notification assigning Prof (Dr) Vinay Kumar as the head of the department of micro-biology department to give pace in preparation of ambitious Viral Research and Development Lab (VRDL) of the institution as well as faculty.
Dr SC Das (principal) was the last professor of the micro-biology department at Patliputra Medical College Hospital (now SNMMCH) but in 2007 he was transferred to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur as principal. Since then, the micro-biology department at SNMMCH was without a professor.
Though Dr MP Singh became HoD of micro- biology department after the transfer of Dr Das, he was (Dr Singh) associate professor and retired in the same post.
Interestingly, the micro-biology department of SNMMCH has been without a faculty member after the retirement of Dr Vinay Kumar (associate professor) in 2021.
Dr Sujit Kumar Tiwary (senior resident) had been discharging the responsibility of HoD in the micro-biology department till Thursday.
He did tremendous work as HoD under pressure during the Covid-19 period (2021-22) in the lab with a limited workforce. He got high appreciation from the District Disaster Management for his daredevil work in the lab. Unfortunately, he was not felicitated by the government for his work during the Covid period.
A senior professor of the SNMMCH said that the appointment of Prof (Dr) Vinay Kumar as HoD in the micro-biology department by the principal has not only filled up the vacant faculty post but also strengthened the research work in the lab.
Dr Vinay Kumar said he would try to cater to the requirements of the faculty as well as the lab.
