‘SRIJAN 23’ annual fest kick-starts at IIT ISM Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Feb 4: ‘SRIJAN 23’ of eastern India’s technocrats’ biggest annual social-cultural fest began at the IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on a high note.

 Prof Ranji Singh, dean of media and branding of IIT ISM said that in the three–day fest, budding technocrats across the country are taking part in a host of fun-filled events including a variety of bands, catwalk on ramp donning fancy outfits and singing.

The festival began simultaneously at five different places on the campus including the New Lecture Hall Complex (NLHC), Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre (GJLT), Penman Auditorium, Open Air Theatre and in front of the library.

On the first day of the three-day fest on Friday, altogether 57 participants teamed together in 19 groups and competed against each other in a series of three events- Triathlon -speaking contest ‘Spin a Yarn’, self debate ‘Turncoat’ and writing contest ‘Flash fiction’.

The coordinator of the Triathlon events Jasleen Kaur said that the three rounds of elimination, semifinals and final were organised in the contest.

“In the preliminary round of the solo singing competition titled ‘Aaroh’ held at penman Auditorium, 43 budding technocrats of different institutions participated and enthralled the audience with renditions of their songs,” said JasleenKaur.

Giving details, Sanskar Mathur, the coordinator of the ‘Aaroh’ said that a total of 57 entries were received in the event of which 43 of them screened for the preliminary round.

“Each participant was given 5 minutes to perform the song of their choice. Their performance was screened on basis of singing potential, evaluating tone, scale rhythm, pitch voice modulation’, said Mathur.

 The technocrats displayed their theatre skills and acting talent in a drama event titled ‘ Rangmanch’ held at GJLT. They impressed the audience with their superb display of expression of emotions.

A maximum of 25 students including crew members were allowed in a team and 75 minutes were given to a team to perform.
