Stress on importance of local foods of Jharkhand

Ranchi, Sept 20: A virtual webinar was organized by the Press Information Bureau on the Importance of local foods of Jharkhand on the occasion of Poshan Maah -2021.

Every year the Poshan Maah is celebrated under POSHAN Abhiyaan (PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment), which was launched in 2018. Dr. Ramaa Shubramanian (HOD, Home Science, Jasmshedpur Women’s College) and  Sanchita Guha (Dietician, Tinplate Hospital, Jamshedpur) were the prominent speakers of this webinar. During the webinar Dr. Ramaa Shubramanian (HoD, Home Science) said that this is the time when climate is changing and people are falling ill very easily. One should choose his or her food and snack wisely according to the climate and body temperament. She also said that we should add Madua Roti, kode pita, Mand Jhor, Mandaua, Mahual Latha in our diet. These foods are rich in protein, calcium and contain dietary fibrers, which keeps us healthy from inside and also good for diabetic patients.

Sanchita Guha (Dietician, Tinplate Hospital) talked about the indigenous foods of tribes of Jharkhand like rice, makka and ragi, green leafy vegetables like-sin-ark,susni-ark,pindiya-ara,lapong ark are good for our health. She also added that people of Jharkhand can also add fruits (like -jamun, papita, ber), roots and tubers (aloo and kacchu), meat (goat, fish, rodents, snails, crabs), pulses/legumes in their diet to stay healthy and free from diseases.

The webinar was curated by Arimardan Singh (Additional Director General, PIB-ROB, and Ranchi) and was moderated by Mahvish Rahman (Field Publicity Officer).
