Ranchi, Aug. 18: The Supreme Court on Friday directed an absconding accused of the Jharkhand illegal stone mining case, Rajesh Yadav alias Dahu Yadav, to surrender before the special PMLA court in Ranchi within two weeks.

A division bench of Justices Anirudh Bose and Bella Trivedi passed the order while hearing a Special Leave Petition filed by Dahu Yadav. A history sheeter criminal Dahu Yadav has been absconding since last year after the PMLA court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Later on, the court declared him an absconder and attached his movable assets.

Dahu Yadav had earlier challenged the action of the Enforcement Directorate against him. But the Jharkhand High Court quashed his petition after which he moved the Supreme Court.

Notably, the ED investigating the Rs 1000 crore illegal mining scam named him as a key accused along with Pankaj Mishra who happens to be the MLA representative of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren. Besides, the ED also named Bacchu Yadav and others. The ED alleged Dahu Yadav who runs ferry service on the river Ganga was part of illegal mining as he did transportation of stone chips.

Earlier, the agency had arrested his father Pashupati Yadav in the same case and further chargesheeted him. Not only his father, his son Rahul Yadav and brother Sunil Yadav have been facing a money laundering probe.

The investigation has suggested that Dahu Yadav having a criminal background raised assets through land grab and extortion. He and his father grabbed and acquired many prime land and housing properties in Sahibganj district.
