Ranchi: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Bhanu Pratap Prasad, a revenue employee from Bargain, after the Jharkhand High Court had earlier rejected his regular bail plea, with the apex court hearing his petition before a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V Mohan.
Bail Granted in Surveillance-Related Case
The Supreme Court ordered Bhanu Pratap’s release on bail in connection with the surveillance-related case. He had been in jail since June 2023 in connection with the Bargain land scam case.
ED Raid Uncovered Tampered Land Documents
During the investigation into the Bargain land scam, the Enforcement Directorate had raided the premises of Bhanu Pratap and others. During the raid, land documents kept in a locked box were recovered from his house — documents that should have been in the Circle Office. The ED found that these documents had been extensively tampered with.
ED Referred Matter to State Government Under PMLA
Following the raid, the ED sent information related to the case to the state government under Section 62(2) of the PMLA and requested necessary legal action. Acting on this request, the government directed the then Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi to take action, following which an FIR was registered at Sadar Police Station under IPC Sections 420 and 120, though Section 120B was later removed.
Case Now Under ACB Investigation
After the FIR was registered at Sadar Police Station, the ED filed an ECIR in the land scam case. The investigation into the FIR was subsequently handed over to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
