New Delhi: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav praised the Supreme Court’s interim stay on government orders requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names of their owners and staff. Describing it as a “victory of harmony,” Yadav called for a new nameplate inscribed with the words “sauhaardmev jayate” (victory of harmony).

In a post on X, Yadav expressed his approval of the Supreme Court’s decision, highlighting the need for societal unity and harmony. The court’s interim stay halts directives issued by the BJP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, which opposition parties have criticized as fostering religious discrimination.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) also celebrated the court’s ruling. Party state secretary Sudhakar Yadav declared the decision a victory for public protest, emphasizing that the orders had threatened social unity, promoted untouchability, and were unconstitutional. He praised the court for safeguarding constitutional values and responding to nationwide protests against the directives.

Additionally, the CPI-ML leader criticized the central government’s recent decision to lift the ban on government employees participating in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities. He described this move as part of the ongoing saffronisation of India’s democratic institutions, including education, government, and bureaucracy.
