Ranchi, April 16: The much-awaited project of establishing Transport Nagar to provide parking facilities for the heavy vehicles coming to Jharkhand capital from outside will soon take its shape as the survey work to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the project is in its final stage.
A Hyderabad-based company KMV Project Limited is working on Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC). The company is also doing survey work along with preparing the design and drawing of Transport Nagar to be developed in Sukurhuttu.
After the survey, the company will prepare the DPR and hand it over to JUIDCO, after which the work on the site will be started soon.
Transport Nagar, which is awaited for the last 12 years, is expected to be completed by the end of financial year 2024-25. On September 27, 2021, the state cabinet had given approval for the development of Transport Nagar on 40.68 acres of land at Sukurhuttu in Ranchi at a cost of Rs 113 crore
The land has already been earmarked for Transport Nagar. The construction work will be done under the supervision of JUIDCO. In the first phase, space for parking of as many as 424 heavy vehicles and a G+6 integrated building with 16 office spaces, 180-bed dormitories, 150 seating capacity food court, 17 retail shops, police check-post, health check-up centre, medicine shop, toilet and two weighbridges will be constructed.
Other infrastructure will include water harvesting and a fire fighting system besides a 4-lane approach road connecting Transport Nagar with the rest of the city, a petrol pump, two state-of-the-art warehouses. There will also be a place for the drivers and their helpers to take a rest.
After the development of Transport Nagar, it is expected that the capital will be free from traffic jams and around 500 t0 700 truckers coming with their vehicles will also have a proper place to stay safe. Apart from this, truckers will also get a proper place to unload goods they will carry.
The development of Transport Nagar has remained a challenging task. In 2010, a plan was chalked out to develop a transport city in Ranchi. Since then the location for the development of Transport Nagar was changed thrice due to land issues and local protests.
The Urban Development Department had directed the RRDA to build a transport town on 52 acres of government land at Sukurhuttu in Kanke. Due to the impasse in the acquisition of 14 acres of raiyati land, a plan was made to build a Transport Nagar in Sarwal of Namkum, but there also the matter got stuck due to the non-acquisition of 26 acres of raiyati land. After this, the government went to Pandara. In Pandara also, land acquisition again came as a hurdle. Now finally, the work will be done at Sukurhuttu.
