Jamshedpur, June 22: Though the southwest monsoon has arrived in Jharkhand but most districts were yet to get rain, resulting in sweltering conditions and high discomfort index.
Heat wave conditions prevailed in Jamshedpur, Daltonganj and several other areas of the Palamau region during the past 24- hours.
IMD Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s prediction of heavy rain in north-east and southern Jharkhand also proved wrong as none of the Meteorological observatories recorded heavy rain.
One or two places including Deoghar, Bokaro and Hazaribagh only recorded moderate rain ( below 30 mm) during the past 24- hours. Ranchi recorded 1.6 mm rain.
According to Meteorological statistics, several places failed to open their rain account even after the onset of the monsoon.
The heat and humidity affected normal life on Thursday too in many places.
Though schools re-opened today after an extended summer vacation but classes were dismissed at 10.30 am.
The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Ratnagiri, Raichur, Kavali, Canning, Sriniketan and Dumka.
Weathermen said conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon over some more parts of south Peninsular India, some parts of Odisha, some more parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and some parts of East Uttar Pradesh during the next two-three days.
Monsoon currents are still weak and therefore it is taking time in making a surge, explained a climate analyst in Ranchi.
Today’s satellite pictures indicated a trough running from south Punjab to west Bihar across south Haryana and a cyclonic circulation associated with low-pressure area over central parts of Uttar Pradesh extending up to 0.9 Km above the mean sea level.
