She arrived in Taiwan late on Tuesday, defying a series of dire warnings and threats from China, which has threatened to take her visit as a serious provocation given that it claims Taiwan as its territory.
The most prominent elected US official to visit Taiwan in the previous 25 years is Pelosi, who is second in line for the presidency.
“Taiwan is flourishing democracy. It has proven to the world that hope, courage & determination can build a peaceful & prosperous future despite the challenges it faces. Now, more than ever, America’s solidarity with Taiwan is crucial, that’s the message we bring in today,” said US Speaker Pelosi.
“Today, the world faces a choice between democracy and autocracy. America’s determination to preserve democracy here in Taiwan and in the world remains iron-clad,” said US Speaker Pelosi during a meeting with President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen,
