Chennai: Voting is underway today for all 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. The contest has become a high-voltage three-corner battle between the ruling DMK alliance, the AIADMK-led NDA, and actor Vijay’s newly launched TVK.
Major Leaders in the Fray
Chief Minister MK Stalin is seeking a second consecutive term, while AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami aims to return to power after five years. Actor-politician Vijay has entered electoral politics for the first time, making this election one of the most closely watched in recent years.
Large Voter Turnout Expected
Polling began at 7 AM and will continue till 6 PM. Tamil Nadu has more than 5 crore registered voters, including women, men, third-gender voters, and around 14 lakh first-time voters.
DMK Campaign Focus
The DMK-led alliance campaigned on its “Dravidian Model” governance and welfare schemes. Stalin also pushed a Tamil Nadu versus Delhi narrative, targeting the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi joined the campaign in support.
AIADMK-NDA Strategy
The AIADMK and BJP attacked the DMK over dynasty politics and corruption. They promised stronger law and order, women-focused welfare schemes, and better governance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also campaigned against the ruling party.
Vijay’s Big Entry
Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is contesting all constituencies, adding uncertainty to traditional vote equations. His debut has especially drawn attention among young and urban voters.
