Jamshedpur, Feb 24: Automobile major Tata Motors Limited created a record of sorts when it manufactured 477 heavy vehicles at its Jamshedpur plant on a single day on Tuesday, February 21.
Usually, the company manufactures an average of 250 to 300 heavy vehicles daily.
According to company sources, the production of trucks, trailers, tippers and other multi-axle vehicles has witnessed a rise this month as the market conditions improved.
The automobile major has been manufacturing around 450 vehicles daily. The record of 477 vehicles was achieved on Tuesday, said sources in Telco Worker’s Union.
“If the current production by the automobile major is any indication, the city plant of Tata Motors has created history by manufacturing a record number of 477 commercial vehicles, ” said a functionary of the Telco Worker’s Union
He thanked both the management and the workers for achieving this great feat.
Industry sources said the ancillaries based at Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela- Kharsawan district has also seen a rise in production target. The company has set a higher target of manufacturing heavy vehicles in February.
An official of another union Tata Motors Workers Union said, “We are happy that production, as well as orders for heavy commercial vehicles, have picked up in February. It is a good sign. With increasing orders, the company has decided to increase its target this month. ”
There are over 700 small, medium and large ancillary units at Adityapur that supply auto components to Tata Motors.
Industry sources said there has been a growth in demand for the heavy vehicles of Tata Motors in the domestic market due to the quality of the product.
Apart from the quality aspect, there has been an upgradation of road conditions in various parts of the country which has increased the demand for heavy vehicles.
