Jamshedpur, Aug 22: Tata Steel Foundation opened a Multi Skill Development Centre (MSDC) at Vikas Bhawan in Chaibasa (West Singhbhum).
The centre was inaugurated by Joba Manjhi, Minister of Women, Child Development and Social Welfare, last evening.
The minister expressed her faith in the Foundation and the district administration’s efforts dedicated to the West Singhbhum youth. She appreciated the initiative by voicing her hopes of seeing the MSDC youth achieve worldwide popularity in the near future.
Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, said, “The MSDC Chaibasa reaffirms our commitment to enabling access to employment opportunities for youth where they are most needed. The facility and its course structure are poised to bring in a paradigm shift in the way we envision the skilling of youth across the state of Jharkhand in the times to come. We extend our gratitude to the district and state-level administrations for the trust they have in us and for extending assistance in making this possible.”
For the project, the Vikas Bhawan has been redesigned and equipped to accommodate up to 500 students at a time. The Centre will begin with four courses comprising warehouse packaging in the supply chain, auto service technician, helper technician, and mobile assembly in accordance with the government’s Make in India campaign. All of these are three to six months courses, identified through a study conducted in the region. Besides regular maintenance, the Foundation will take charge of firming up the initial infrastructure. In addition, the arrangement of training partners, trainers, and equipment will also be supported by Tata Steel Foundation.
The MSDC has been set up with the aim to bridge the gaps in the educational infrastructure and skill development to generate more employment opportunities in West Singhbhum.
Through this initiative, Tata Steel Foundation intends to address school dropout rates and the issues of youth having to move out for technical training by enabling a learning platform in an area accessible to them.
