Dhanbad, Dec 5: An elderly couple, Sukol Marandi (60) and his wife Dakhan Marandi (51), was found murdered in their courtyard in Fulpahadi village of East Tundi police station, around 30.5 km away from district headquarters on Monday morning.
The East Tundi police station inspector Sudhir Prasad said that the head and face of both the deceased were smashed by heavy metal. Three persons have been taken into custody for interrogation on suspicion.
Police further said the son of the couple Suklal Marandi, who lived separately from his parents, spotted the bodies lying on the gate of the courtyard under a pool of blood in the morning when he came to meet them. Prima facie, it looks both were murdered at late night. He immediately informed villagers as well as the police about the murder of his parents.
Suklal Marandi told police that his father had a long dispute with Amin Marandi of the village. Villagers had held several meetings to solve their dispute but to no avail. On Sunday, the ox of his father entered the farmland of Amin Marandi. He might have committed the crime of killing both of them.
East Tundi police took Amin Marandi, his wife Mangol Marandi and his son Anil Marandi into custody and brought them to the police station for interrogation regarding the double murder.
Police inspector Sudhir Prasad said police are interrogating them besides investigating through other angles in the case. After the incident, panic prevailed in a small village dominated by tribal people. Villagers hold the tribal chief responsible for the incident. They said that had the Panchayat given its ruling in the dispute, such an incident would not have occurred.
