New Delhi, Dec 5: A court on Monday denied Ashish Misra’s request for discharge in a case involving the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Ashish Misra, son of Union minister Ajay Misra is a key accused in the case connected to violence that had erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, 2021.
Earlier in February of this year, bail was granted to Ashish Misra, who was detained on October 9 in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheir. However, Ashish Misra’s bail was revoked by the Supreme Court in April, and he was told to turn himself in within a week.
And now, a court has denied Ashish Misra’s request for discharge. 13 further defendants in the same case had their discharge pleas denied as well. On December 6, accusations will be brought against Ashish Misra and the other defendants.
Notably, farmers and BJP members were killed on October 3 when violence broke out during a farmers’ protest. This happened just before Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya was scheduled to visit Lakhimpur. Four of those killed were occupants of vehicles that were part of a BJP worker convoy that had gathered to greet the UP minister. Farmers made up the other four.
