New Delhi, Aug 8: A rush early on Monday morning at the Khatu Shyam Ji temple in Sikar, Rajasthan, left three persons dead and two more hurt. Two injured people have been sent to a hospital in Jaipur for medical treatment.

Around five in the morning, a stampede broke out at the temple’s entrance. It is deemed lucky to have Khatu Shyam Ji’s darshan today, the eleventh day of the lunar calendar, as he is thought to be a manifestation of Lord Krishna.

The police reported that a sizable crowd had gathered outside the temple as they awaited the opening of the gates. A woman reportedly fainted and fell as soon as the gates were opened, prompting others behind her to also stumble.

Kunwar Rashtradeep, Sikar’s police superintendent, told that the situation is under control and that the throng is being managed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sympathy to the victims’ families on social media.

“Saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple complex in Sikar, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who are injured recover at the earliest,” the PM wrote.
