Jamshedpur, Feb 25: Thunderstorms, lightning and rain lashed several parts of Jharkhand including Ranchi and Jamshedpur during the last 24 hours.
The rain was due to the impact of an induced cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
The cyclonic circulation was triggered by a western disturbance passing through the mid-troposphere.
A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from today.
A duty officer said light to moderate rain or thundershower was expected at isolated places over north and central Jharkhand today.
Ranchi Met Centre also issued a nowcast (short-term forecast) of rain, lightning and thunder in several districts later in the day today.
The Met centre also alerted people not to take shelter under trees during bad weather.
Tomorrow light rain or thundershower activity is likely at a few places over south-east, north-east and central Jharkhand.
Heavy moisture incursion was taking place into the atmosphere because of the induced cyclonic circulation.
Met data revealed that Ranchi, Jamshedpur and several other places in Kolhan and central Jharkhand recorded over 25 mm of rain during the last 24 hours.
According to the forecast, the minimum temperature would continue to rise while the maximum temperature will witness a drop.
