PRINCE KUMAR
Ranchi, Mar 30: In the modern era where parenting has become a huge concern, it is found that every 2 out of 20 children born are suffering from a disorder known as Autism, said Dr Rajeev Kumar during a press conference organised at Ranchi Press Club.
The Ranchi Press Club in association with Dr Rajeev’s Homeopath Clinic and YBN University is going to organise a programme for autistic children and their parents on April 1 from 10 am to 2 pm in the Ranchi Press Club.
Describing Autism, Dr Rajeev said that Autism is referred to be a “spectrum” disorder since the kind and intensity of symptoms that people experience varies greatly. Autism affects people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They have a hard time understanding what other people are thinking and feeling. This limits their ability to communicate, whether through words, gestures, touch or facial expressions.
People with autism have difficulty learning. Their abilities may not develop at the correct age and manner. For instance, someone may have a problem with communication but can excel at art, music, calculations or memory. As a result, individuals may perform particularly well on analytical or problem-solving tests.
Sharing the signs of Autism he said, “Autism symptoms normally occur before a kid reaches the age of three. Some people exhibit indications from the moment they are born. Few signs of Autism include lack of eye contact, failing to listen to others, reluctance to be hugged, narrow range of interest among others.”
“With the help of speech therapy, medications, behavioural therapy and proper parenting the effect of the disorder can be minimised. There are several examples of people in history who had autism such as Bill Gates. So the theme of the programme will be ‘Today Autism Genius Tomorrow’,” said Dr Rajeev.
He also urged the state government to open an autism park where autistic children will come to play and awareness about such children can be spread in society.
YBN University Chairman Ramji Yadav said that the university will also create a rehabilitation centre for such kinds of special children and the YBN School in Dhurwa will also allow admissions of such special children to the school.
On the question of whether the school has the facility to serve such special children, he said, “Till now we have not encountered any admission of special children, but if such kind of admission comes we will be more than happy to provide all kind of facilities to those children.”
The German psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler developed the term autism in 1911 to characterise a symptom of the most severe forms of schizophrenia, a notion he had also created.
The word Autism is made of two parts, “aut” and “ism”. The prefix of the word is “aut” which means “self” in Greek and the suffix “ism” means “state of being or condition” in Greek.
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that manifests itself early in life. It begins in early childhood and lasts throughout the rest of a person’s life. Autism is often connected with difficulties in social and communication skills, as well as repetitive habits and routine adherence. It’s also possible that it’ll be accompanied by sensory sensitivity and difficulties paying attention.
