Training for South Eastern Coalfields officers begin at IIT ISM Dhanbad

Dhanbad, May 22: The five-day executive development programme (EDP) training for the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) officers began here at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on  Monday.

Altogether 20 different level executives are getting training about the project and financial management and about latest tools and techniques of the relevant field as well as the knowledge of various issues of Coal Mining.

The training programme has been organized for the SECL executives by the Department of  Management  Studies and Industrial Engineering, IIT ISM to make the executives aware about the sustainable development of mining projects, star rating and financial management in mining projects.

IIT ISM deputy director Prof Dheeraj Kumar inaugurated the programme and expressed hope that it will help the SECL executives in enhancing their competence and efficiency.

“The EDP will be of great help to the executives of SECL which is one of the largest coal-producing subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL)” said Prof Kumar.

Prof JK Pattanayak, former deputy director cum one of the senior most faculty member, of the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering of IIT ISM  said that such a programme helps in gaining knowledge for the industry and academia.

Prof Rajni Singh, dean (Media & Branding) of IIT (ISM) also expressed hope that the experience at the workshop will be quite enriching and participants will turn into brand ambassadors for IIT (ISM).

Proj Sagar Pal, Dean (R&D) of IIT (ISM) gave details of the research infrastructure facilities of IIT (ISM) and said that it is one of the best in Eastern India.

Prof Bibhas Chandra, Head, Department of Management Studies spoke about the various aspects of financial management.

Rashmi Singh, Assistant Professor of the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering said, “the energy security of the country can only be achieved by exposing the executives to the latest technological developments and various project software for better and efficient management of coal mining projects across the country”.

Yogendra Athiya, a deputy manager and staff officer (Project & Planning) of SECL posted at the Baikunthpur project of SECL in Chhattisgarh who is one of the participants of the programme said, “Such EDPs provide the opportunity for the executives like us to get updated with latest development which in turn helps increase the efficiency”
