Ranchi, April 1: Tribal students hit the streets today in Sahibganj to protest against the Hemant Soren government’s recruitment policy.
The agitating students were mostly from the Tribal Welfare Hostel. They ensured the closure of the market and since morning marched on the road saying they were not in favour of the ’60:40’ employment policy which opened the door for outsiders.
Students blocked the road at several places, including Green Hotel More and the main road near the station besides others. The protesting students were seen armed with arrows and bows. A large number of police forces were deployed in the area.
In the morning the shopkeepers had reached to open their shops taking the protest for granted but as they observed that agitators were serious about their intention, they returned without opening the shop.
Earlier on March 23, students had protested in the Jharkhand capital against the recruitment policy. Jharkhand police had to resort to lathi charge as protesting students attempted to lay siege to the assembly when the session was going on.
Recently, the Jharkhand government brought a recruitment policy of ‘60:40’ under which 60 percent of seats are reserved while 40 percent seats are open to all. After this, the government deprived OBC of reservation in five districts’ rosters.
