Trump Renews Threat to Iran, Announces Fresh Talks in Islamabad

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that an American delegation will travel to Islamabad for fresh negotiations with Iran after an earlier round of talks failed to produce an agreement. Alongside the announcement, Trump also issued a strong warning, saying the United States would target Iran’s power plants and bridges if Tehran rejects the proposed deal.

Fresh Diplomatic Push in Pakistan
Trump said his representatives would arrive in Islamabad for another attempt at negotiations. Previous ceasefire discussions held on April 11 in the Pakistani capital reportedly lasted around 21 hours but ended without a breakthrough.

The main disagreements were linked to Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions relief. The United States demanded limits on uranium enrichment and guarantees that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons. Iran rejected those conditions, insisting its nuclear programme is for civilian purposes.

Sharp Warning to Tehran
In his statement, Trump said the US had offered a fair and reasonable deal, but warned of severe action if it was refused. He claimed America was prepared to destroy key Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if diplomacy failed.

Trump also accused Iran of violating a ceasefire arrangement in the Strait of Hormuz by opening fire near international vessels. He said some shots were directed toward a French ship and a British freighter.

Hormuz Tensions Continue
After the collapse of talks, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have escalated. The United States reportedly imposed a naval blockade on Iran-linked shipping, affecting oil exports. Iran responded by partially or fully closing the Strait, demanding an end to sanctions and maritime restrictions.

Trump argued that the closure was damaging Iran’s own economy more than America’s, claiming the United States remained unaffected due to alternative energy routes and domestic supplies.
