Jamshedpur, Aug 15: Two jawans belonging to Jharkhand Jaguar were martyred in an encounter between paramilitary forces and Naxals under the Tonto thana area in West Singhbhum district about 100 km away from here on Monday evening.
The jawans who were martyred were identified as assistant sub-inspector Amit Kumar Tiwari and constable Gautam Kumar.
The encounter took place in a retain along the Tumbahaka-Sarjamburu road under the Tonto thana area sometime around 7 pm on Monday.
According to a press statement issued by the West Singhbhum police, the Jharkhand Jaguar was part of a big operation being carried out by the police and paramilitary force, CRPF against the Naxals hiding in the forest cover in Tonto Thana area.
As the Jharkhand Jaguar jawans were engaged in a search operation at the forest stretch along with the jawans belonging to CRPF’s six battalions there, the Naxals had rained shots taking advantage of the impending darkness. In the attack, two Jawans sustained fatal bullet injuries.
The Naxals had subsequently retreated into the dense jungle unable to stand the retaliatory fire by the paramilitary forces.
The police and paramilitary forces on Tuesday morning paid homage to the two Jharkhand Jaguar jawans who were martyred in the fight against the Naxals.
It may be mentioned here that it was the second time that two jawans were killed in an operation against the Naxals within a week. Earlier on August 11, a CRPF jawan Sushant Kumar Khuntia was martyred while fighting against the Naxals in the Tonto Thana area.
