Dhanbad, June 7: A two-member team of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) under secretary cum civil judge senior division Nitasha Barla inspected the female ward of the Dhanbad Divisional jail today in the afternoon and took stock of facilities being provided to the prisoners.
This is the first time when a team of DLSA has inspected the condition of the female ward in Dhanbad jail.
The authority member told media persons that the inspection was conducted on the directive of Jharkhand Legal Services Authority Ranchi.
The team consisting of civil judge Natasha Barla and DLSA retainer/remand advocate Ajay Bhat assessed inside jail hospital facilities, kitchen, food items and their quality and other facilities being provided to the female prisoners.
During the inspection, DLSA secretary Barla also interacted with female prisoners and took stock of their problems. She also asked about their educational condition and took details of the facilities they receive in the ward.
Barla also assured the female prisoners that DLSA would make proper arrangements for their proper primary or higher education if they wish for it.
“Send the application through advocate in this regard to DLSA so that it could be managed in the coordination of jail administration and district administration,” said the civil judge senior division.
During the inspection, jail superintendent Ajay Kumar informed the DLSA secretary that at present 32 female prisoners and their two kids (below six years) are lodged in the jail. He informed that the primary education of prisoners and their kids is being arranged through woman PLB.
DLSA secretary directed the jail superintendent to conduct health check-ups of prisoners and their kids from time to time and hold Yoga classes on a priority basis.
DLSA assistant Saurabh Sarkar, Arun Kumar Jail doctor Dr Alok Viswakarma and Rajesh Kumar Singh were present on the occasion.
An official said that the sudden inspection of DLSA in jail, particularly in the female ward would make a sea change in the facility for prisoners.
