New Delhi, Feb 12: Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud will administer the oath of office to two new judges, Justices Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar on Monday morning.
Justice Bindal and Justice Kumar previously served as chief justices of their respective high courts before being promoted to the position of judges on the Supreme Court.
After a hiatus of nine months, the top court will have 34 judges, including the Chief Justice of India, once they take the oath.
Since October 11, 2021, Justice Rajesh Bindal has held the position of Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. His parent cadre is the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Bindal, who was born on April 16, 1961, received his LL.B. from Kurukshetra University in 1985 and began his career at the Punjab and Haryana High Court in September of that same year.
On March 22, 2006, he was appointed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court as a judge. Justice Bindal handled almost 80,000 cases during his time as the chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, according to information found on the website of the Allahabad High Court.
On November 19, 2018, he took the oath of office required for his transfer to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Subsequently, he was named interim Chief Justice of the common high court for the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
On January 5, 2021, Justice Bindal took the oath of office as a judge of the Calcutta High Court. On April 29, 2021, he was appointed to fill the position of Chief Justice of the high court.
On the other hand, since October 13, 2021, Justice Aravind Kumar has presided as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. His parent cadre is the Karnataka High Court.
His enrollment as an advocate began in 1987. He was born on July 14, 1962. He was nominated to the Karnataka High Court’s supplementary central government standing counsel roster in 1999.
In 2002, he was appointed to the Regional Direct Taxes Advisory Committee. In 2005, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Solicitor General of India. On June 26, 2009, Justice Kumar was promoted to the position of additional judge on the Karnataka High Court. On December 7, 2012, he was appointed a permanent judge.
